We started this project because we were curious about the everyday objects around us. When WOF first began its journey in design and furniture, one of the initial pieces we created was a small stool. In Javanese culture, this simple seat is known as a “dingklik.”

We think we made it because it was such a common sight in our surroundings, something we saw without really noticing. It was just there, a part of daily life, and we accepted its presence without much thought. In this small study, we tried to learn more about this furniture. We looked at its history, tracing its roots and history. We observed how people use it in their everyday lives.

Our project, “Chisai: A Little Exploration,” made its first public appearance at the Bandung Design Biennale 2023. The exhibition allowed us to share our findings and interpretations with a wider audience, sparking conversations about the role of everyday objects in our lives.
